Wood is my great love. I select my own timber from private gardens or dedicated woodlands. I can feel what each piece of wood is destined to become, from the curve to the grain. I revel in combinations of timber, such as four types of oak for a sideboard: burr oak, bog oak, white oak and brown oak. And I am resolutely practical (making chopping boards, for example, from the most stable part of the tree so they stay flat.)
It is no surprise that my work sells across London and the South East, has been shipped as far as Australia, and is on sale at renowned venues including some Wisley Garden events and The Sussex Guild shows. It features from private homes to the Lord Chancellor’s Apartments.
How to Commision a Bespoke Project
Commissioning a piece from Colin Norgate is an enjoyable and exciting process. I love putting clients’ ideas into practice … from the bowl in the shape of a spiked conker shell I made for a 40th birthday, to stunning ecclesiastical elements for churches and cathedrals.
Wood Turning Courses
Step into the workshop and let your creativity flow. I run practical one-day wood turning courses (and up to three days on request) to offer you a fantastic introduction to the art of designing, selecting timber and turning the wood. This is a wonderfully tactile, enjoyable experience and you will leave with a really nice piece you have crafted yourself.
